Iaido

Iaido - The Art of Drawing the Sword

Iaido is designed to teach ways to draw and cut with a Japanese sword. Techniques include cutting one’s adversary on the draw, usually at temple or eye level, and responding to attack with drawing, parrying and riposte with a lethal blow through shoulder and spine. Iaido is practiced without a partner using a real sword. Iaido’s action is comparable to the quick-draw of the western gunman.

Iaido is primarily performed solo as "waza" or forms against single or multiple imaginary opponents, concentrating largely on unsheathing/sheathing the sword, posture, grip, movement fluidity and swing.
